A solid basic education in ESD is essential to gain increased knowledge and understanding of the relationship between electrostatics and sensitive electronics. We're here to help you!
What is ESD?
ESD stands for Electrostatic Discharge, which refers to the sudden transfer of static electricity.
Static electricity is generated through contact, friction, and separation of materials. It is always present in our surroundings—on work surfaces, floors, chairs, clothing, packaging materials, workplace equipment, and more.
For example, a person walking across a floor or working at a bench can accumulate charges of several thousand volts. Humans only begin to feel a discharge at around 3,000 volts, but the most sensitive components today can withstand just 20-50 volts before they are damaged or destroyed.
